Grade II Listed Home Orangery

We were approached by the owners of a beautiful Grade II listed property who wanted to create a bright, versatile extension that would work seamlessly with the style and heritage of their home. Their kitchen previously had only a single small window, offering limited views of the garden and very little connection to the outdoor space. The brief was for a hardwood-framed orangery, painted white, carefully designed to match the proportions of the property. The new space would be used primarily as an additional living area and dining area, offering year-round comfort and a stronger link to the garden.

A key part of the brief was to incorporate bifolding doors to the front of the orangery. This configuration included a single opening door for day-to-day use, while allowing the entire set to fold back and open up to the garden, perfect for summer months, garden parties, and barbecues. The pilaster posts and fascia were deliberately kept simple and understated, ensuring the orangery complemented the Grade II listed architecture without appearing overly ornate.

The completed orangery has transformed the way the homeowners use their property. Where the kitchen once had only a small window, the new extension now offers panoramic views of the garden and floods the adjoining space with natural light. It is a comfortable, bright living area that can be enjoyed in all seasons, warm and cosy in the winter, and effortlessly opened to the garden in the summer.

The homeowners were delighted with the result. The combination of traditional materials, subtle detailing, and modern functionality has made this extension a natural and valuable part of their home, enhancing both its beauty and their everyday living experience.
